RAMS analysis for Grenland Rail
Grenland Rail AS transports timber from Moelven, among other things. They currently have maintenance/service bases in Kongsberg and in Sweden. Due to the large distance between these, it is desirable to have a new service facility/workshop along the railway in the Inland, preferably near the loading bays at Braskereidfoss, Sørli and Koppang. These train sets pass Elverum and Vestmo, which are located just south of Elverum city center and border the railway, and are therefore a very good alternative.
Railsupport has prepared a RAMS analysis for Grenland Rail which aims to assess the risk associated with the railway operation of the siding and workshop area at Vestmo against Grenland Rail and Bane NOR's risk acceptance criteria. The analysis includes the RAMS characteristics of the fully developed facility.
The analysis group consisted of participants from Grenland Rail, Bane NOR and Railsupport AS.
The planning area currently includes part of an existing industrial area in Vestmo. Various parts of the area are owned by Vestmo eiendom AS and Bane NOR respectively. On Bane NOR's property there are railway tracks and adjacent side areas. Today, Vestmo is subject to Elverum station. Track 1 is a train track for driving to/from the Solør Line, while track 2 is a timber terminal.
A new siding with an adjacent service/workshop building of approximately 500 m2 will now be constructed along the railway at Vestmo Business Park in Elverum municipality. The changes include the construction of a workshop area for Grenland Rail that will be used for servicing and repairing locomotives and wagons.
The RAMS analysis addressed a hazard identification of conditions that could affect safety in the area. This included, among other things, geographical conditions and mapping of hazards and potential adverse events, with associated probability assessments, barriers and risk-reducing measures.
